FESTIVAL UPDATE DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8, 2020
RE: SHELBURNE COUNTY LOBSTER FESTIVAL POSTPONED UNTIL 2021
SHELBURNE COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA - With the rising concerns and uncertainty around the COVID-19 crisis the 2020 Shelburne County Lobster Festival committee has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s physical event, scheduled to occur June 4-7, 2020.
The Shelburne County Lobster Festival which has been running since 1986, was established to recognize and celebrate the importance of the lobster fisheries in Shelburne County. There are many events that take place throughout the Festival that are organized or sponsored by various community groups and volunteers from one end of the county to the other. It is a signature event along Nova Scotia’s South Shore and has always been a great way to kick off the summer season and indulge in one of our Nova Scotia icons - lobster.
The members of the marketing committee feel the uncertainty of the current global situation makes it impossible for the various community groups who organize events to move forward with planning for a June festival. “The committee will plan to hold some virtual events and contests to celebrate the end of the lobster season and we will find some fun ways to celebrate what the industry means to our County, it will just look a little different this year”, says event organizer and committee member, Suzy Atwood. What that will look like is still being planned and various committees will be contacted to see if they have anything to add to the virtual celebration. People are encouraged to like and follow the festival on their Facebook page to take part in the virtual celebration and contests.
Anyone who needs to get in touch with festival organizers for business purposes or with ideas of a virtual celebration should email their local recreation department in Shelburne County for more information.
